All children have a fear of something; spiders, snakes, even unknown monsters. In William Golding’s Lord of The Flies, a group of English boys are stranded on a deserted island with no adults. Being such young boys, they start to become afraid of a beast. But the big question is, what is the beast in Lord of The Flies? Is it the War that is happening when the boys plane crashed?
In the novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding perpetuates the ideology of mankind being inherently evil. He successfully displays the boys descent into savagery and incorporates a balanced amount of external and internal dangers within the boys. The savagery on the island, also referred to as the “beastie”, only represents the boys internal battle with the savagery that resides in all of mankind. Golding ultimately uses prepubescent boys between the ages of 6-12 to display the corrupt intentions of all humans. Lord of the Flies displays loss of innocence by including murder, arson, and through constant rivalry and differences in mentalities between both Jack and Ralph.
Civilization means to be a part of a culture, to have a leader who takes power, and to be apart of orderly society. In the novel The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Simon is the most civilized boy on the island because he has the most positive outlook out of every boy on the island, he is insightful of what and where the beast is, and, he is the first to realize most of the problems that occur on the island. Simon has the most positive outlook out of every boy on the island. Simon insisted multiple times that the boys would get rescued, even when Ralph strongly doubted the possibility.
Jack and his hunters at the age of 12, have committed murder on Simon and Piggy and attempted murder on Ralph. Jack and his hunters should stand trial as children, because of the circumstances of maturity and judgment at their young age yet the brutality of the crime committed. The circumstances are these; Jack and his hunters were stranded on an island, alone, although along with other boys, for a long time being a 3-4 month period, and without adults and their judgment to guide them to safe and civilized decisions. However, when left to their own devices, Jack and his hunters still chose the act of murder when the other boys had not, but at the same time they weren’t in the best setting to think their actions through. Although 2 of 3 crimes were an act of hatred and
Bullies can be found anywhere in the world. They victimize, torture, and threaten others for their own benefit. Every bully has a weakness they attempt to conceal, but it is never truly hidden. This insecurity leads them to act out against seemingly inferior people to achieve a false sense of strength and security. The deep emotional struggle bullies face is evident in Lord of the Flies by William Golding.

Children are supposed to be innocent and pure at heart. They are full of dreams, imaginations, and the simplest form of true happiness in society at any given time. But is this really true? Adults like to think that it takes time in order for someone to become corrupt, but William Golding disproves this in his book The Lord of the Flies. Golding explains that on an isolated island filled with just boys, the last thing they do is stay pure and fit the mold of what children twelve and younger should act.
William Golding was born on September 19, 1911 in Cornwall, England. His father was a schoolmaster and his mother fought for woman’s right to vote. His father ran a grammar school and that is where he received his first education. Golding attempted to write his first novel at the age of 12. William attended Brasenose College at Oxford University to study English literature.
Everyone’s Evil Human Nature Without society, humans will always rely on human nature, and with an exception for a select few, it is bad. In the allegorical novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a plane full of British school boys is shot down onto an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and they are stuck with no adults and no communication with the outside world. Characters and events all represent something greater than what is read in this story, but one of the frequently recurring issues is the question of human nature: whether it is good or bad. But based on the events in this story, there is no doubt human nature is bad, even if there are good people. The most good-natured person in the story, Simon, believes evil, symbolized by the Lord of the Flies, is within everyone.
Have you ever thought that history can be used in both good and bad ways? History has impacted perspective and how people act on things for countless generations. History is used and abused which can be seen through the reflection on historical background in Lord of the Flies, through philosophical belief affecting how people treat history, as well as through how historical events cause new perspectives to form. Lord of the Flies is able to portray that history can influence people directly in both positive and negative ways. “We’re English, and the English are best at everything.”
In Lord of the Flies, Ralph undergoes major character development. For example, in the beginning of the novel, Ralph innocently believs his father will come and rescue him. This shows how innocent and pure Raplh truly is. As time flies by, Ralph begins to become more serious. For instance, when a ship passes by without seeing them, Ralph becomes agitated that the others would let the fire burn out.
