Memories can express many emotional times and events in your life, but it’s terrifying when you can’t remember anything at all. In the novel Breaking Beautiful by Jennifer Shaw Wolf, the main character, Allie, goes through her life after a tragic accident where her boyfriend, Trip, drove off a cliff in his truck. Allie was found near the cliff but she has no memory of the accident. Allie is forced to return to her life before the accident with the exception of having Trip. Allie experienced some traumatic events that influenced changes in herself as well as some people, some being Trip’s death/the accident, having to go back to school, and having Blake there for her every step of the way. .

Allie throughout the book carries the weight of Trip’s death with her. Allie finds out near the end of the book that Andrew cut Trip’s breaks the night of the dance so he would be killed, but it backfired when Allie got in the car with him so Blake assisted Andrew. Allie is given a sense of relief when she finds out. Allie is faced with Blake helping her with every issue with his compassionate nature. Blake refuses to leave her. Allie sneaks out and even enjoys activities she previously didn’t do, with Blake. Blake eventually leads Allie to deliberate near the end of the book that, “For the first time in forever I feel good about myself, like I’m okay. Maybe even beautiful” (Wolf, 554). Blake did what he was forced to so she wouldn’t suffer anymore, because he held her dearly in his heart and arms. Allie realized she was loved for being her. Not once did they care what she had looked like but instead pondered her thoughts and feelings. Allie eventually learns to love herself, something that she hasn’t done in a long while.
