Hi, I’m Haley Fox, a detective for the “Virginia State Police Department.” Recently, it has been brought to my attention that a man, whom we do not know the name of, is going on a rampage, killing innocent people in their sleep. I’ve done some various research on this man, based on what we do know, which includes digging up some of his records here with the police department. Strangely enough, we’ve noticed that this isn’t the first time that this man has killed someone. This unexplained killing, and the reason behind the killing, has led us to believe that maybe this man is crazy.

All of this attention made the case extremely controversial (Saferstein, 2015). It is now over twenty years since the murder occurred and the case still remains unsolved. The development of DNA evidence has played a critical role in the course of this arduous investigation (Saferstein, 2015). Crucial mistakes were made from the very start of the investigation by police and then by the district attorney, Mary Lacy (Saferstein, 2015).

On August 22, 1924, the two rich boys, Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb are tried for the murder of 14 year old Robert Franks. Clarence Darrow presents a tiresome 10 hour speech after the young men confess their guilt. Under these arduous circumstances, the test to persuade the Judge to release these kids from their death penalty all relies on Darrow’s powerful rhetorical appeal. Darrow uses captivating rhetorical appeal in attempt to denounce these young men from the death sentence, but, more importantly, to oppose civil punishment for the future. While Darrow is fighting to save the lives of these young men, he is simultaneously in the midst of another battle.
Through examination of all evidence that pertains to this case, investigators were able to narrow down, and eventually identify the suspect in the murder of Gaven Brooks. Through the analysis of not only fingerprints, saliva swabs, and hair follicles, it can easily be seen who the real perpetrator was. Also, through interviews with close friends and relatives, it was revealed that Peggy could not have been a potential suspect because of her allergy to grapes (could not have drank the wine found at the crime scene), Lauren could not have been a potential suspect because her shoe size was too big to fit the size five shoeprint that was found at the scene. Janice did not know how to drive, which means that it couldn’t have been her because the car was moved from the scene of the crime to an abandoned parking lot over twenty miles away.
Former Harris County District Attorney Johnny Holmes sought the death penalty as often as possible. It is record that after he left the office the number of death sentences as reduced drastically. The reasoning makes sense because of course the elected officials are here to serve the public, however they should not allow their egos and personal career stand in the way of giving out proper sentences to those that are
Death Penalty According to the 2010 Gallup Poll, 64% of the United State of America are supporting the death penalty, I as an American am part of that 36% that is against it. I do not believe that we as human being should determine whether another person should live or die. A second reason that I am against the death penalty is for the reason that the accused person could be innocent and normally the accused person only has one court presentation and is only judged by the judge not a jury of their peer, and is sent to death row where they pay for a crime that they haven’t done. My final reason that i do not believe that the death penalty should count as a punishment for the American people is because, a person that has done a massive massacre shouldn’t just be able to leave the world just like that without paying and suffering for what they have done, Or should the death punishment continue as it is for it has a great benefit to us as citizens of the United States.
