NFL player Darrent Williams, a cornerback for the Denver Broncos, was murdered on New Year’s Day 2017 at the age of 24. Williams was simply attending a birthday party for a Denver Nuggets player at the Golden Triangle nightclub. As he was leaving the club he was he was shot in the neck by Willie D. Clark, a member of the crips while riding in a stretch Hummer limo and died soon later. While Williams was shot and killed his killer lived the rest of his life in prison. Clark was also found guilty for attempting to murder 16 other people throughout the day. A prosecution theory was that in retaliation he shot into the limo because he was getting disrespected. Public executions were used to scare people so they wouldn’t violate the law. Ted Bundy, American serial killer, rapist, and kidnapper was one of several people executed for his murders/crimes in the late 1970’s although, humans weren’t the only ones electrocuted. In 1903 Thomas Edison executed an elephant in front of 1,500 and videotaped it. The elephant was electrocuted at Luna Park Zoo on Coney Island in New York. People that are faced with the death penalty prefer the method of lethal injection rather other methods such a the gas chamber, electrocution, hanging, and even Crucifixion which is still used in Sudan as a form of the death penalty. The combination of a lethal injection includes these three drugs: First sodium thiopental is used as an anesthetic; second, pancuronium bromide is used to paralyze the person, and lastly they induce you into cardiac arrest using potassium chloride. American business magnate Donald Trump said “Anyone who would commit an act as heinous as this clearly has deep rooted emotional problems. While this crime was an insane act, it demonstrates a deep lack of respect for law and order by a segment of society in this country. I would be in favor of the death penalty for this type of senseless and violent act (as well as others like espionage, treason, acts of terrorism) committed against innocent citizens.
