Throughout Jonathon’s life, he suffered from the denial of teachers, family members, and himself when it came to his academic success. Despite the odds, he overcame his label of “learning disabled” and graduated from Brown University with a 4.0 GPA. Many other students labeled with a disability also suffer from the same aspects as Jonathon. In his book, Jonathon showed the mistreatment that not only he experienced in school, but he also showed how others struggled with an unsupportive school system.
This woman clearly demonstrated full autonomy and foresight during her decision to inquire about physician-assisted suicide. Based on the facts there is no indication she was not competent and of sound mind as she met all state requirements to request assisted suicide. Her statement of spiritual ties also leads us to conclude she has already evaluated the possible “consequence” of her death that may or may not apply to her religious views. Consulting her doctor about dying on her own terms demonstrates voluntary active euthanasia, which involves a social decision between two moral agents. In this situation, one being the doctor, and the other the patient.
And if “Had anyone been there with her, she’d have been still and faint and hot with chagrin, (Mairs 259).” Instead of pitying herself, Mairs is able joke about her hardships in her day-to-day life despite having physical incapabilities. She then continues with a steady, yet uplifting tone as she explains the reasoning behind why she labels herself as a “cripple”, stating that it is a “clean word, straightforward, and precise, (Mairs 260).” She believes that words like “disabled” or “handicapped” are words that are “moving [her] away from her condition, to be widening the gap between word and reality, (Mairs 260).” By using these euphemisms for her condition, people tend to view her as something she isn 't.
Lee Johnson, who lived in Oregon, was a retired federal worker who began a subsequent career as a furniture maker. He then developed brain cancer. Although the disease was inevitably going to kill him, he took the necessary precautions intended to extend his life. However, his condition worsened and he became bedridden and endured blurred vision, soreness, and a lot of pain.
At first, when deciding to write a response about Jones’s account, nothing appeared to mind on what to discuss. Perhaps the chapters dealt with many engaging topics and themes that deserve a response. However, when I attempted to compare my experiences with Jones’s, I found it interesting to consider how a person’s certain situations attribute to their mobility and immobility. Before talking about that, signs of mobility and immobility that the book describes deserves attention.
Should you let anyone or any animal go through pain only to die in the end anyway? This question is hard for many people to answer or even think about. Choosing to end another person's life can be justifiable if you are taking someone out of painful existence. Murphy writes the story as it recounts events throughout his entire life, from childhood onwards. He was sixty-two when he wrote the novel. The story provides Murphy’s anthropological commentary on the life of a person with a disability and how society views and treats people with disabilities (Murphy, 1990). Murphy’s performance patterns both support and inhibit his occupational engagement.
Physician assisted suicide is when a physician provides the means required to commit suicide, including prescribing lethal amounts of harmful drugs to a patient. In the United States alone, there is great controversy about physician assisted suicide. The issue is whether physician assisted suicide is murder or an act of sympathy for the patient. The main point is that terminally ill patients should have a right to physician assisted suicide if it meets their needs and is done properly. Physician assisted suicide is an appropriate action for the terminally ill that want to end their life in peace before it ends at the hands of the terminal disease.

In the book The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen, we are introduced to the protagonist; Jessica, who loses one of her legs in a bus accident. While Jessica is in a wheelchair for a short period of time, she is placed to sit next to Rosa, the “special-needs girl who sits at the back of the classroom”. As the book develops, Jessica realizes that Rosa is so much more. Rosa is accepting, optimistic, ingenious, and philanthropic. Their friendship impacts Jessica’s acceptance of her own disability.

Assisted suicide is only legal in several states so far. These states includes: Oregon, Vermont, and Washington. One other state that is debating rather they should allow assisted suicide is New Jersey. How has assisted suicide become debatable in the United States? Amongst the many people that thought that assisted suicide should be forbidden due to them violating and going against religion, others believed that they should be allowed to choose what they would do with their ongoing lives.
Assisted suicide is a rather controversial issue in contemporary society. When a terminally ill patient formally requests to be euthanized by a board certified physician, an ethical dilemma arises. Can someone ethically end the life of another human being, even if the patient will die in less than six months? Unlike traditional suicide, euthanasia included multiple individuals including the patient, doctor, and witnesses, where each party involved has a set of legal responsibilities. In order to understand this quandary and eventually reach a conclusion, each party involved must have their responsibilities analyzed and the underlying guidelines of moral ethics must be investigated.
