Amelia Earhart : Finest Aviator Throughout history existed numerous influential figures whom shaped modern day society such as Amelia Earhart, a successful female aviator. On 22 October 1922, abroad The Canary, Amelia broke the women's world altitude record, rising to 14,00 feet (“Amelia Earhart Britannica). Nonetheless Amelia did not stop there, she set out to break and introduce new records. Amelia Earhart’s numerous achievements as an female aviator confirm her to be a role model whom influences generations of youth to pursue their dreams, despite what obstacles may be encountered. Amelia had been influential as she overcame gender stereotypes, following her dreams, something youth is afraid to do. Amelia was born on 24 June 1987, in Atchison, Kansas, where she spent a vast majority of her childhood (Fleming 6). Amelia’s parents had been relatively well off , despite their rocky marriage. Edwin Earhart, Amelia’s father had been a lawyer whom represented several railroad companies. His spouse, Amy had been a housewife (Fleming 7). As a child Amelia had received a decent education. From the start of first grade, Amelia attended Atchison’s College Preparatory School. Amelia had been one of the three first graders, from a school of only forty students. For one, she was one of the few female aviator’s of her time, and one of the only successful ones. This is a great accomplishment for a woman of her time, since during the 1900’s gender equality was a major problem. Amelia peacefully protested against gender stereotypes of her time with her success. Amelia inspired many girls as well as women to overcome gender stereotypes, and follow their dreams.
