Is the American Dream Still Alive? Being equal means that all Americans have the opportunity to succeed, it doesn't mean that all Americans have the same things. Some people will work much harder to succeed, they should have more than people who don't want to work to succeed. The American Dream is that every United States citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, initiative, and happiness. But many wonder if it is still alive today. Many studies have proven that the American dream is still alive today. Six months later in October 2010, the unemployment rate decreased .5% and it was 9.4%. A year later, in October 2011, the unemployment rate decreased by .6% and was 8.8%. Ad the years went on, the unemployment rate has decreased. In May 2014, the unemployment rate was 6.3%. In the past 6 months, in September 2017, the unemployment rate reached an all time low for the decade with 4.2%. ( Unemployment rate) This means that over 243 million people have jobs in America. This means that 80 million people in America don't have jobs. With the rate being the lowest of the decade, many Americans have jobs and are able to provide many items for their families. To be a free country means that the government does not control what people say or do for political reasons and where people can express their opinions without punishment. America is indeed a free country. When the American Founding Fathers were writing the Declaration of Independence, they were deciding how they wanted The United States of America to advance and how it would officiate as the years proceeded. In the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence it states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” (Spease). The main aspiration of that paragraph was to set the country's government. It was written to set The United States aside from all other countries on the Earth. Also, the freedom of the country gives the citizens the opportunity to succeed in life. Freedom gives the people to equal and to be the best that they can be.
