The American education system is one that is slowly lagging behind while others are rapidly skyrocketing in all subjects and not just one. Our education system is slowly killing our creativity and innovation. Our education system hones in on one type of teaching for only one type of learning, instead of doing something for every type of learning and every type of learner. Not only that, our system tends to lean more towards the STEM system (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) instead of liberal arts or any arts for that matter. Standardized testing is another thing that is hindering our growth not only in our education but also in society.
Ever since I was little I’ve always had a thing for music. I have to do everything with music playing in the background, that’s the type of learner I am. I know that others may not be like me and have different learning styles but in our educational system they only focus on one type of teaching that “helps” every kid. The reality of this situation is that those who can’t learn in a “normal” classroom may not know any ways to help them study. It is a program and teaching style that can both help us but also tear us down as a country. With how much we are progressing with technology it's obvious that some kids and teenagers are going to be intrigued and want to become the next Bill Gates. Now although it is a good thing to have these programs and opportunities for the students it can be a bit of a problem for those that aren’t interested in anything that STEM falls under. Some may be forced to participate or take part in those classes when they have no interest in it. They prefer liberal arts or any type of art.
