The genre of most of the articles was a scientific report or article. All eight articles analyzed contained scientific evidence as either the majority of the text or as evidence for another claim. Nearly all articles had a amalgamating of genres, usually a current event with the evidence written as a scientific article would be. The writing style in all the articles analyzed was a combination of an expository style and a persuasive style. Burdick’s articles have the perfect balance of an informative article with a hint of persuasion.
“The professor of psychology at Michigan State University” (Szalavitz 1), “the research published in the journal Intelligence” (Szalavitz 1) are the sources that writer used to support his idea, so this give the reader a feeling that this article is really professional because all the resources he used were from big and approbatory organizations by credible people. These professionals insightfully designed a writing system that would establish consistent procedures for their writing purposes. The APA style continues to provide standardized formatting for the essentials in writing for grammar, mathematics and tables. Integrating research and correlating the findings into my writing assignments can present challenges. Close attention must be paid to the details of how each contributor’s citation and reference is formatted (Bethel University, 2014). A direct quote has different requirements than a paraphrased quote from a researched source.
I read MLA handout and APA handout, there are different in a paper formatting, a title page, in-text citation, and reference pages. After I finished read from MLA and APA handout, both MLA and APA looked like the same format. However, they were not the same format after

One of the most complex aspects of being human relates to the state of consciousness. It offers perhaps the most varied of experiences, from the state in which people are in when they are not conscious to the representation of semi-consciousness to the full reality of the waken state. Cognitive neuroscience may be one of the most well-explored areas of human well-being, and yet there is still so much more to learn about the inner workings of arguably the most important organ in the body. Chapter 3 delves into the concept of consciousness and the two-track mind, in an attempt to explain everything from sleep issues to addiction to the hypnosis to the ways in which the brain processes just about everything. The brain is a highly complex organ that is responsible for everything from knowledge to personality and everything in between.
A psychological analysis is a year: it is made up of many different aspects of a person’s life, which can be boiled down into months of decision making, weeks of thoughts, days of feelings, hours of incentives, then pulled apart to reveal how a person becomes the way that they are. A psychiatrist is a person who has dedicated their life to studying the brain and its inner workings. They understand how difficult it is to summarize their findings. Yet the brief reply he was required to give was a second. It was short, it was abrupt, and it was over in the blink of an eye.
Am now able to set my paper in the correct format. Also the assignment on writing in science vs business writing and writing in science vs humanities has enlightened me on the differences in writing and citing in MLA vs APA. This shows that I understood the rhetorical purpose because I considered the audience and the article’s main purpose. My understanding of the content material is shown in the statement: “the article uses American Psychology Association (APA) citation to cite statistics and information used throughout the article. Most psychological journals and publications require articles to be cited in APA form, as that is the standard citation format” (Genre Analysis). Furthermore, I showed that I understood the learning outcome of structural features by writing in my essay that “the main topics, which are the headings, are broken into sub-sections.” (Genre Analysis).
When writing and submitting an academic paper, your title page is your first impression. A correctly done APA format title page helps establish the aptitude of the student or the writer, and gives the reader and reviewer (either your editor or your professor) a clear representation of the rest of your paper. An APA format title pagehas five essential elements: the article title, the author’s name, the author’s school affiliation, the running head and the page number.

In the article, " What Is 'Academic ' Writing," the author gives the meaning of the academic writing style. L. Lennie Irvin speaks that this writing style is argumentative and analytical and states the three characteristics. Academic writing characteristics includes: having clear evidence, the importance of reason over emotions or sensual perception, and having an imaged reader. The purpose of an argumentative essay is to hold a discussion to gain a better understanding of the topic. I have learned that I need to have an organized presentation and have strong evidence to write this specific writing.
