America's Biggest Concerns Of Water Conservation

1484 Words6 Pages

One of the biggest concerns of our lifetime is water conservation. Many people have not learned what we can do to take action and help conserve water. There are actually many small things each of us can do every day that would help conserve! In many places, America especially, we have not learned moderation. I think that our communities as a whole are not educated on the problems we face, or how we should face those problems once we do get educated! There are multiple industries that waste, and pollute our fresh and salt water systems. One of the biggest industries in America that has this issue is the Agricultural industry, and there is a man who is trying to change this.
A few years ago, I was watching Shark Tank on ABC and a guy by the name …show more content…

Then, in 1984 Johnny and his dad Rick developed a plastic, semi-conical device to place around tree roots to block frost and conserve water and energy. The main goal of his company is to promote water conservation. A study was done by the
University of Florida in 2009 and they discovered that trees with the Tree-T-Pee's used 93% less water, fertilizer, electricity, and fuel. Globally, the agricultural sector consumes about 70% of the planets accessible freshwater! The main causes of wasteful and unsustainable water use are: leaky irrigation systems, wasteful filed application methods, and cultivation of thirsty crops not suited to the environment. The problem with unsustainable water use is that it harms the environment by changing the water table and depleting ground water supplies. Excessive irrigation can also increase soil salinity and wash pollutants and sediment into rivers causing damage to freshwater ecosystems and species as well as those further downstream, including coral reefs and coastal fish breeding grounds. The fact that the Tree-T-Pee uses 93% less water, is amazing! If many big agricultural businesses and farmers …show more content…

He still has the same goal of conservation and making his product available to farmers all over the nation since his partnership with
Home depot. Since his experience in the spotlight, he still keeps his priorities in order: God, family, work, and that is how he lives his life. He also shared with PowerHouse Growers that his product has been selling most well in Germany since signing a contract with an international company. “What makes Tree-T-Pee so special is that you're helping not just one person, you're helping the whole world.

Helping others is a wonderful blessing.” He also said that the Tree-T-Pee has greatly helped the United
Arab Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries who heavily rely on the expensive process of desalination to supply their water.
As for the future, Johnny is working on two new products. One is a retrofit piece that snaps on to an existing Tree-T-Pee and is used to catch rainwater and repel pests. This adds 80% more water to the tree and is lines with a metallic material to reflect and drive away bugs. He made this without having to use chemicals or pesticides. It works by putting the fertilizer in the top, and then once it
