I am writing to thank you for generosity for HCZ Endowed scholarship. By me receiving this scholarship, you have helped enlighten some of my financial situation to help me continue my education here at Walsh University. By receiving this scholarship, I am most appreciative, and thankful for receiving it. I am a senior who is looking forward to graduating this spring from Walsh University with a degree in corporate communications and a minor in marketing. My plans after graduation is to work for a company in sales and in the advertisement field.
The first time I heard about Americorps, it was my first year as a transfer student at Georgia State University. I had no idea of what the program was and what it consist of. The moment I search and read about the program without doubt I wanted to be a part of. The reason why I would like to join Americorps program because of the purpose it exhibits. Americorps represents the theory of idealism.
Never would they have imagined going to school let alone attending college but because of them I was able to attend school, graduate high school, and attend college. Because of them I had the amazing opportunity to be born in one of the greatest countries in the world and study to become anything or anyone I wanted to be. Because of them and with the help of the Clark Construction Field Scholarship I am able to pursue a degree in Special Elementary education with a minor in Human services and speech pathology and audiology. Without being awarded the scholarship for the past two years my parents and I wouldn’t be able to afford tuition and I wouldn 't be able to pursue a degree. I am not sure what the future may hold for me
It has, especially, helped with choosing a career and being prepared for my future. The scholarship will help further my interest in to a firefighting and emergency medical services career, and I believe I should receive this scholarship

When I first stumbled upon this scholarship from the American Legion, I knew right away that I wanted to apply for it because of the similarities between what the American Legion and what I both stand for. I few words that I would use to describe the American Legion and myself would be, service, integrity, and hard work. These are a few things that I take very seriously and attempt to involve in my life everyday. I pride myself on these high character traits and try to use them in my community, during sporting events, at home, and at my school. I also implement these traits while fulfilling my civic duties by doing service around my community.

My father has been in the military a little more than twenty years, more than the 21 years I have been alive.

For the Bronze Award a girl scout must work twenty hours with fellow girl scouts to complete a project to better the community, for my Bronze Award I sewed a hundred blankets and donated to the guide dogs of america. For the Gold Award a girl scout must work eighty hours on a project to better the community, something which I plan to complete during the course of my high school career. For the silver award a girl scout must work fifty hours to complete a project to help the community, for this I learned an invaluable life skill . When I first decided to take on my silver award I brain stormed multiple ideas, I knew I wanted to do something that involved animals and something that would have a lasting impact, but I wasn't quite sure exactly what. After much research and thinking, I came up with an idea that I thought would be remarkable and impactful, I decided for my silver award I wanted to work with the government of Los Angeles to create a tax incentive for all animal shelters which did euthanization their animals.
It is an honor to be chosen to apply for the Columbus Chapter of National Honor Society. National Honor Society has always been something I have strived to be apart of. After reading the the criteria for this honor I feel that I have demonstrated the qualities associated with this organization. I feel that I am deserving of this honor because I truly strive to be the best student I can be in school. I work hard in school and always an prepared when it comes to a quiz or a test.
As a junior in high school, I was inducted into the National Honor Society for doing exceptionally well in my academic endeavors and actively participating in volunteer events. My contributions through this organization have made a significant impact on both my personal development and my community’s support services. The numerous volunteer projects in which I have participated have prepared me to continue helping others in the future. Through projects such as building houses from the ground-up with Habitat for Humanity, I have developed teamwork skills, discovered my management potential, and increased my social network, all while working to provide services for less fortunate individuals in my community. Going into the first experience at the Salvation Army, I had the expectations of the students being fairly well behaved and the facility not being very good or clean. However, it was basically the opposite of what I thought. The students were good for the most part, but at times I found it somewhat difficult just to keep the 5 or 6 that were at my table quiet and sitting still for a couple minutes. I was very impressed with the Salvation Army and I loved how there was that time of separation for K-2 and 3-5 to do homework and receive help. I feel like the students were offered a pretty large amount of freedom by being able to pick their tables and make their own snack.
In the first year, I was a part of a pioneering youth development team in Americorps NCCC Southwest Region. I worked with K-12 students in title one schools, Boys & Girls Clubs, Habitat for Humanity, local non-profit organizations, The Red Cross and The Salvation Army. I spent my second year working with underserved youth as a volunteer coordinator for Reading Partners in DC. I learned about the struggles that the students I worked with dealt with every day. I was also able to interact with parents and provide resources for education, housing, food, and nutrition.
