A Florida driver's guide for my teen with a learners permit
Everyone eventually has to drive when they grow up. If you are the one driving your very excited to be on the road, while parents on the other hand are killing themselves while your driving. In Dave Barry's letter to his daughter starting to drive shows exactly what a worried parent of a new driver looks like. During the letter Dave talks about the dangers of driving and the dangers of people in Florida. He also talks about how stupid people are on the roads of Florida and how easy it is to get your driver's license in Florida. Dave Berrys “ A Floriduh drivers guide for my teen with a learners permit” is a low level of comedy that uses hyperbole and wordplay to convey the idea that getting your permit in Florida is easy and to be safe and smart while driving.

In one of his examples, he compared a senior citizens vision to a corndog, “ He was a perfectly nice old man, but had the level of vision acuity as a corndog”. In this sentence, Dave was trying to state that the old man had the vision of something that can't see at all because it doesn't have eyes. The old man had eyes but he was so old that he lost his vision and couldn't see the road well. Another example of a hyperbole in the letter was Dave explaining how easy it was to get your license in Florida, “ So to summarize, many people who lack the judgement or physical skills needed to safely microwave a burrito are deemed qualified by the State of Florida to operate a motor vehicle”. Dave was trying to say in this sentence that as long as you can microwave a burrito, the DMV thinks you can drive a motor vehicle if you can microwave food. That is not really how easy it is to get a license but Dave was trying to explain that it is really easy to get your license in
