A blue light starts to flash and my adrenaline starts to pump. The call, a bravo medical alarm. We climb into the ambulance and run lights and sirens. My adrenaline starts to settle because we are anything but worried about this lower priority call. These calls are typically pretty standard we help the person off the ground and put them in bed, they sign a refusal form to go to the hospital, and we are on our way. However, this particular call was anything but routine. We pull up on scene we notify fire board of our arrival and proceed to the apartment building. My partner knocks on the door, no response. Again we knock, still no response. We check the page from Fireboard to make sure we got the right address and to our surprise, it was. We crack open the unlocked door and yell "Christiana Fire Company ambulance, anybody home?" Still no response. We walk in cautiously and quickly realize that there is no furniture in the living room or one of the bedrooms. The only thing that seems to occupy this apartment is a pile of clothes and a pair of shoes. As we search the place we have yet to come across any signs of people living in the apartment until I try to open the bathroom door. I quickly realize something is stuck …show more content…

We get in the ambulance, lock the doors, and contact dispatch. We tell them the situation and they advise us to stage a couple of blocks away from the scene. To stage is to drive a little ways away from the active scene and wait for the police officers to arrive and signal it is safe to come to the scene. As we are staged Fireboard contacts life alert and asked what they heard from the one way radio in the life alert charm. They explain to us that they heard somebody screaming at the top of their lungs. They inform us that the only history for that particular apartment is an eighty-three-year-old woman who lives
