Introduction Being a nearly lifelong resident of Ozark Mountains of Missouri, I have always been fascinated by the many interesting legends and tales that have been shared with me by many of the various characters that I have had the opportunity of meeting over the years. Tales of the Civil War, lost Spanish Treasure Caves, Notorious Outlaws, Bushwhackers and many fascinating characters that once roamed these ancient hills and hollers. Some of my favorites are stories that transpired along a stretch of road that folks here in the Ozarks refer to as the “Old Wire Road.” What we now refer to as the “Old Wire Road,” wasn’t always a road, but rather a series of ancient trails used for migration and trade by several Indian tribes over many generations. The
In her essay “Me, My Sleep, And I”, writer Priscilla Srikanth argues that high schools should start later in the morning to ensure that students are well rested, energized, and focused during the school day. She accomplishes this by utilizing rhetorical questions and an anecdote that allow the reader to reflect on their past experiences with the idea of a late start, a logical fallacy that encourages the reader to view the situation from the writer’s perspective, and an appeal to logos to further strengthen her argument. Leading into her essay with rhetorical questions, Srikanth urges the reader to ponder about times that they have felt like never leaving their cozy bed. In this way, the writer creates a sense of likeness between herself and the reader. By appealing to ethos through an anecdote, she shows the reader that she too has experienced the struggle of getting up every morning.
He starts off similar to Trudeau, giving scientific information about teenager’s sleep. He lists some problems of sleepy teenagers, including that they are more likely to crash cars, not do as well in school, and even become depressed. It sounds a lot like the guy supports the idea of later start times. But he moves into the main point of his article, which is that introducing later start times for high schoolers will be tough, and expensive. The overall point of the article is that later start times are healthy and beneficial, but it will be awhile before they are possible.
Mary A. Carskadon, investigated what would happen to sleep rhythms in a group of teenagers for the transition from middle school to senior high, the starting time from the late 8:25 am to very early 7:20 am. The students went about their usual schedules, wore monitors on their wrists, and kept diaries of activities two consecutive weeks. Carskadon found that the 10th grade group woke up significantly earlier for school. These students recorded that they felt tired and groggy throughout the school day. In addition they also received substantially lower test averages than the previous year.
“If I’m being honest, I get, on average, four to five hours of sleep every night, just because I’m juggling all my homework on top of my extracurriculars. Second semester will only get crazier, because then tennis season starts. My schedule will literally explode.” Jasmin Yu-- we all know about her. The simple mention of her name conjures up images of the “perfect student”--a straight-A piano prodigy, devoting herself entirely to her studies, while simultaneously balancing marching band practices with Praise Band chapel performances, Honors Society Executive Board duties with 3 AP course workloads, and tennis season with her social life.
In High School, there 's a strict lesson plan that schools follow when it comes to learning math or any other subjects. High School teaches their student all different types of history, math and a wider range of English and science classes. The question is, how do kids use these different type of course that they’re being placed in later on in their future? High School is where teenagers learn how to become responsible young adults, teaching high school students how to calculate income tax, manage their income, maintaining good credit, and other essential life skills. Instilling these lessons helps navigate them into the real world post high school.
So, they can improve the odds of adolescents getting sufficient sleep so they can thrive both physically and academically. I agree with this source, starting schools later could enhance student’s school performance academically and athletically. Starting school too early are preventing many teenagers from getting the sleep they need to start off their day. I aim to using this this source to support my claim as to why students need more sleep and how it would affect them throughout the school day. This will benefit my essay by forward explaining why school should start later in the morning and why doing this will be better for the students’
Many of us are faced with tough times, hard decisions, and struggles but there are only certain people that have the willpower and determination to overcome those obstacles and change their life for the better. Many of us are faced by little challenges like when the alarm clock goes off for school. Do we get up and go to school or do we go back to bed? The immediate reward is going back to bed and getting the satisfaction of more sleep but the downfall is that you miss your classes. This didn’t seem like an important decision for me until I got to college.
One of the very strong pathos appeals in the article was "It 's important to add sleep to the school curriculum at all grade levels and make sleep a positive priority." That statement shows that sleep is actually a caring matter and that the argument should be taken into consideration so that a change can be taken into effect. This source would be very beneficial to me in the argument letter by giving me strong points about why the times should change for school start
Act One, Scene 2, Life After the Military I am relieved to know waiting on going to college was right decision. I appreciate the teaching methods that my professors have shown me since I began my studies. Hard work along with the instruction from the teachers has proved to me that South University is the college that will afford me the opportunities that a higher learning degree can offer. There is more to college than studying and making desirable grades, it also requires work ethic, experience, and looking ahead at future plans. Studying and learning new things is important to a new college student.
Although my classes just began, this advice has me positive that I will succeed in my classes as I have already incorporated them into my schoolwork. In addition, I was given ample instruction on
Homework club helps the kids finish the work they got at school. He interviewed the kids and asked them how they felt to get all this information. Longer school days will help Anaheim High School students actually do their work because of all the help they will be getting.
Carroll also brings up some of the down sides of a later school start time, such as additional costs per student for transportation, interferences with parent schedules, and the possible necessity to upgrade school infrastructure to support clubs and sports teams that will have to meet later into the night. Overall Carroll urges his audience to at least consider the benefits of allowing students the opportunity to receive more sleep. Aaron E. Carroll is a professor of Pediatrics and Associate Dean for
To start, a student's “biological clock” is much more ready to learn later in the day and gathers more knowledge at that time (Cline, 2011, para. 2). Cline (2011) also wrote about an experiment that changed start times from “7:15 AM to 8:40 AM or from 7:25 AM to 8:30 AM” in schools
What I am about to share with future students at Schenck High School has the ability to make or break your grade point average. Mr. Cousins is a great man and one of the smartest people I know. He also is an amazing teacher, but the subject matter he teaches leaves much to be desired. I am about to share my three step plan on how to pass any of Mr. Cousins classes. I do what to inform you what I mean by "pass".
