The Effect of Friendship As the Chinese proverb about an invisible thread says, some people are destined to meet each other. This was the case in the excerpt from An Invisible Thread, written by Laura Schroff, as her close friend, Maurice, recounts the details of when he, as a young boy, met Laura during the time of when he was begging on the streets for change. As the story continues, both Laura and Maurice use a first-person point of view to share what their experience in the relationship has been, and how far they have come. Furthermore, she takes him to even more places, meaning that she did not only spend time with him to feed him but to also make his day enjoyable. This matters because since she took the time to take him out for a meal and other activities, it shows the readers how she benefited him by not only making him happy but also by making him full. Even after, she continued to keep him full, which the readers can infer because he is still living to tell his story. Without her, he may not have made it to adulthood, let alone have enough money to support his family. This goes back to when he uses the word “man” to describe who he is, since he may not have been alive. Because of the impact that Laura made on Maurice’s life, he went from asking for money to making his own, allowing him to have the life he had always hoped for. After Maurice says this,
