A World Without Caddies Some golfers have a tremendous need for either help deciding or getting reassurance on a shot or line or just need to get talked down from the edge when a shot goes terribly wrong. Many may say the golfer is the one that truly does the work but behind every great golfer is a caddie. The caddie is helping in every decision the player makes and weighs in on the risk to reward aspect and he knows the players limits and what he is capable of in that moment. Not only can they help decide on a club or line but they also help talk the player down to hit the best possible shot. In Max Adler's article "Undercover Tour Pro: What If We Had To Play Without Caddies?" from the July 18th 2017 online issue of Golf digest, he effectively …show more content…

He uses his knowledge of the game and the players to break down who will crack under the pressure of not having a caddie to lean on in times of need. He takes what he knows about the player personally and what he knows with his game and combines those two key attributes to give the best idea of what would happen when their caddie was no longer there for them to assist and save their game. Max adler says, “I'm not sure Jason Day would hold up. It's not like he listens to Col (Colin Swatton) that much for shot selection, but their relationship is deep, like father and son, that Col's absence might really affect him”. But Max also believes that some players may not even be fazed by their caddies not being there at their disposal. Max said that “Rory McIlroy would be fine alone”. Although Max is sure that Rory will be fine alone because Max has spent time with Rory and with how he plays he does not use his caddie very much if at all. Rory …show more content…

Max uses his knowledge from watching rounds and rounds of golf and big tournament rounds of players to show why a player will be handicapped without their caddie to help with each shot or after each shot. Max also brings up the valid point of bags and the physical shape of each golfer to see how well they will do throughout the round. Max begins by speaking about the bags in which the caddies carry which are big and bulky and quite heavy. Max is almost positive those bags would be trashed and most pros would opt for a lighter more comfortable bag since they’d have to lug it around for 18 holes sometimes three days in a row. He then began to say that the sponsors might be upset but they’d have to deal with just putting their logo on a small patch on the side of the bag. But Max also said some of the golfers on the pro circuit also have bad knees and are outta shape yet still very good golfers because they are able to last the 18 hole round with a caddie carrying their clubs instead of themselves. Max said that “ A lot of players, especially those with nagging injuries, would opt for the extra-lightweight Sunday bag”. Max is not saying that only the older and those with old injuries would be affected he also believes that the young fit guys on the tour would “be
