Analysis: Is This Generation Really More Informed?

Imagine of a world where everyone was educated and no one misunderstood each other, would that not be very nice? In the article entitled, “Is This Generation Really More Informed?”, Darcy Palder and Syeda Sameeha discuss on things that have to do with the generation today and if they are more informed or if they are not. I believe that the generation is less informed on what is going around the world today because of social media, other apps or shows, and not wanting to be more informed. First, social media is not considered a news source because in the text it states, “But polls like this fail to take social media into account as a news source,” (Is This Generation Really More Informed?, paragraph #3). In the article, it states, “[Glenbard East sophomore Kelly Tautkus says] ‘Our generation is all about texting, video games, how many likes have we got on social media,’” (Is This Generation Really More Informed?, paragraph #10). This proves how Millennials spend their time or how they manage it. This also proves that video games, texting, and worrying about how many likes one gets on social media, does not help with getting enough information for what is going about in the world. Besides the generation not knowing much information about what is going about in the world, it states, “[Glenbard East sophomore Kelly Tautkus says] ‘It’s sad that more teens will know what the Kardashians are doing and have no idea what’s going on in Syria or what the European immigration crisis is about,’” (Is This Generation Really More Informed?, paragraph #10). This shows that the generation is not informed about what is going about in the world and are distracted with the shows that are popular. This also shows that the generation will not have an understanding about world activities and will stay in their own little world with their popular shows, games, apps, or social networks. In conclusion, Millenials do not have an understanding of what is happening in the world or what world wide activities may be happening because they are too distracted by their video games, apps, popular shows, or social
