In act ii Brutus makes a claim that supports his reason for murdering Caesar by stating “And for my part I know no personal cause to spurn at him but for the general”(II, i, 10-12). In this sentence Brutus is using a form of pathos. This is considered pathos because he is saying Caesar should be killed for the people of Rome. From this statement it can be interpreted that Brutus joined the conspiracy for the needs of the people.
First, Brutus uses ethos to justify that his “love to Caesar was no less than his” (III.ii.19). This manipulates the Plebeians into believing he and Caesar have a strong relationship. It also brings the Plebeians compassion and lets them know there is love between them even in his death. Pathos is also used by Brutus to honour Caesar through “tears for his love, joy for his fortune, honour for/ his valour, and death for his ambition.” (III.ii,27-28).

In the play Julius Caesar written by William Shakespeare, actions and words are used and spoken against a friend and a rival contributing to the assassination of their fellow friend Caesar. Two people that were very close to Caesar speak out against each other during their funeral speeches. Brutus, who is a “friend” and also a conspirator against Caesar, and Antony who is a very loyal friend to Caesar, use several rhetorical and literary devices as they create tone of proud assertive and defiant manipulation to get the Roman citizens on their side.
In Antony’s speech to the people, he speaks about Caesar over his dead body. His words make the commoners feel something, as opposed to Brutus,
This shows that Caesar wasn't ambitious and trustworthy. Antony uses his emotions to also win the people's trust. Antony is talking about the emotional story of how Caesar was murdered. He brings the people to a sad state and the Romans start to respect Antony more. Brutus thought that his reasoning behind the assassination of Caesar would be enough to persuade that the killing of Caesar was the right thing to do.
In Brutus' speech he uses logos to try to reason with the crowd whilst Antony uses pathos to control their emotions. Brutus explains that for the betterment of Rome Caesar had to die or else he would ruin the country and destroy the great empire. He at first has everyone on his side, that is of course until Antony speaks. When Antony speaks he gives examples of how Caesar wasn't going to ruin Rome and in fact how he was the best leader they had ever had. He says that Brutus and Cassius are murderers and that's all they are.
Spain had confidence that their culture was superior than any other beliefs. If anybody didn’t accept their religion as that, then those people were uncivilized “heathens”. Brutus wants to make the crowd feel like he is in a way the victim. In order to do that he says "As Caesar loved me I weep for him" so in a way the people feel bad for him. This emotional appeal did not persuade the audience considering the fact that he was if he truly did love Caesar as much as he said he would, then he would have tried to find a different route in getting rid of Caesar as emperor. Antony goes with the approach of making the people of Rome feel guilty. He tells the citizens "You all love him once not without cause what cause withholds you then to mourn for him" so they could reflect on their attitude towards his death.
