In T. Coraghessan Boyle’s short story “The Hit Man”, underlying psychoanalytical themes are present that display an allusion to struggles in human life. The main themes present in this story are dysfunctional behavior, displacement, and an insecure sense of self. Readers see the main character, The Hit Man, go through his entire life struggling with insecurity and other dysfunctional behavior. During this timeline, his dysfunctional behavior represents common struggles and conflicts that occur in common day-to-day life. Relationships with his parents and classmates and also academic struggles seems to be the main contribution to the way this character is represented.

Dialogue is used by the author: Carole Wilkinson to craft Ned Kelly as a villain; an author can inform the reader about how the character reacts in situation put before them. Showing off their personality, this is called characterisation which plays a large role in dialogue. Carole Wilkinson used characteristion in the dialogue “If you touch my sister again There’ll be a bullet in your head” to show the reader Ned Kelly had the personality of a villain and the intentions of a hero. Because the author displayed Ned’s personality as both a villain and a hero the story was able to move forward to show how a villain lives on to be a hero. World Events World War One World War I was a very tragic and bad event that affected the whole world. WW1 was a war between Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire against Britain, America, Russia, France and many other countries. The causalities were around 20 million people. The war began when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip, who was part of the group “Young Bosnia”. Austria began accusing Serbia of sheltering this group and later attacked it.
In Tobias Wolff’s short story “The Liar,” the protagonist, James, lies to help him construct a new identity outside of his family. James tells morbid lies about his mother in order to distance himself from her. Since, the loss of his father, James no longer associates with people who are like him. The lies started after his father’s death and his mother starts noticing how much differently he was acting. Since his mother is treating him like she is disappointed in him, James begins to devolve into a state of repressed bitterness.
Tragedy can spread. In Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman is the protagonist, however he not the only person in the play who’s story ends tragically. His view on life spreads to those close to him. Primarily, Willy teaches it to his children who look up to him while his wife simply attaches herself to him, rooting for him in blind support while really she should be waking him up to the cold and dark reality that is their life. Throughout the play, the Loman family evolves differently.
