Poverty is the situation whereby a person is not able to fend for their families or themselves, hence cannot satisfy their basic needs comfortably. Poverty also according to the context can be described as psychological whereby one lacks the ability to handle life situations in an informed manner. Earl writes that poverty is caused by lack of political influence that is caused by hunger, sickness, and drugs among other factors, however he discovers that lack of education is what causes poverty. Everybody is entitled to gain knowledge, however, poor people do not get it because of choice or because of the lack of money to facilitate it. Poverty is facing a large part of the world and is impacting negatively on many economies. Criminal activities such as theft are caused by poverty as people do not have enough resources to sustain themselves. Also, the state of being poor affects the psychology of an individual, therefore, they lose the ability to make sound decisions, hence engaging in violence or drug abuse to ease their frustrations. The decisions taken because of being poor are consequences of lack of an education and knowledge.
