The second article, “The July 16, 1969, Launch: A Symbol of Man’s Greatness,” by Ayn Rand, has the intention to describe the amount of bliss and pride the nation as a whole felt that day. The first article, “In Event of Moon Disaster,” written by William Safire and executed by President Nixon, appeals to the audience through ethos with the author’s title and the President’s status and title. The second article,“The July 16, 1969, Launch: A Symbol of Man’s Greatness,” by Ayn Rand, also appeals to the audience through automatic ethos because of the author’s title as a novelist. The first article appeals to the audience through logos when the President says, “They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation.” This quote forms the rational idea that Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin’s families would be mourning their loved one's death. The second article appeals to the audience through logos by the description of the flame being released from the rocket as it is ascending into the atmosphere. This concept contributes to the plausible factor in logos that a flame would be emitted from the rocket. Lastly, the first article appeals to the audience through pathos by stating that these two men’s families and country will lament their death. The second article appeals to the audience through pathos with the colorful language that is used to break through to the emotion of the audience as she thoroughly describes the vision that was before her. The purpose of the first article is vastly influenced by the relationship between the speaker and the audience. The second article is influenced by the speaker because of her connection to the occasion of the subject. Both of these texts appeal to ethos, logos, and pathos, but the pathos appeals to the audience more than the other two rhetorical appeals. The first article steadily achieves its purpose through the connection between the audience and the speaker. The second article undeniably acquires the purpose of the article through its vigor to deliver the fervor that was endured throughout the country. Therefore, each article fulfilled its purpose cogently through the speaker, audience, subject, and
