The novel “Lullabies for little criminals," written by Heather O’ Neill, examines the effects of two social determinants on Baby’s life. Poverty interacts with poor education in Baby’s life, building an underdevelopment childhood for her to grow up with. It reflects children in our society who could get less life choice under the influence of poverty and poor education.
Kohen (2002) says that a safer and more cohesive neighborhood has better child-development outcomes. Firstly, Poverty limits Baby’s family to a safe and suitable place for Baby to grow up because their income situation makes them having no choices to afford a better living conditions,

Mikkonen and Raphael (2010) believe that the level of income shapes overall living conditions, affects psychological functioning, and influences health-related behaviors such as physical activity, drug use, and excessive alcohol use. In the novel, Baby describes her father’s drug as a “heroin chocolate milk” (Heather O’ Neill, 2006) and his father has been calling that drug milk for years. Jules doesn’t know that Baby has been improperly content with education under the influence of his ‘education’. High-quality early childhood education can result in significant positive cognitive as well as greater adult(the ability to survive with no outside help), however, an inappropriate early education would shape children negative thinking (Geddes, Haw, and Frank, 2010). When Baby starts to act adult behavior “one night, during our unsupervised half hour, I went out in the yard for a smoke”( Heather O’ Neill, 2006), the lack of education is the cause of her childhood health problem. The poor life continues to put pressure on Baby, and eventually her disappointment to his father's education is also a reason to led Baby to do what she shouldn't have done at her age. Stress leads to mental illness such as depression and anxiety because of the person’s limited ability to a stable life(Davidson, 2014). The difference in supporting childhood education at home under an unhealthy environment is a serious problem for them to go further (Beswick and Sloat, 2006). Therefore, children in a bad education environment will be affected by their future behavior habits and road
