In Michael Pollan's '' Escape from the Western Diet'' Pollan explains the negatives and positives of the scientific based diet, best known as nutritionism. Pollan calls nutritionist reductionist science because it focuses on individual rather than a whole foods or dieting pattern. He suggests '' stop eating a western diet’’, but Pollen states that it's hard to go back from the western diet because we inhabited such treacherous food environment. A new theory of diet means new product, that is normally the same except more processed than the old product. The Western diet is effortless, fast and cheap. Being healthy does not only mean to only consume vigorous sustenance, but to enjoy what you eat. When Mary asserts '' trust your body and meet your needs'', by that I’m assuming what she's trying to say is that eat what you desire but in moderate. For example having salad for meal everyday does not make you healthy, and eating burgers and French fries every week it’s acceptable because it’s not extreme. One knows when to stop when eating large quantity of nosh, its common sense. The Western diet is one huge national issue in the US. The outcome of consuming processed food and unhealthy food is on the individual. But this problem is needless if everyone controls what they intake and starts eating in moderate. Chronic diseases caused from obesity would be lowered down if just everyone kept their diet in moderate. Even though fast food is widely spread everywhere it's difficult to avoid, but remember the consequence of eating fast food every day.
