In 1922, WEB Dubois wrote an essay on minorities and African Americans and how we should work harder than every other race because of the hardships our ancestors faced. Don’t you agree? African American ancestors have been through many hardships such as slavery, ending segregation and, til this day, a struggle for equality.

Minorities should work the hardest out of all people because we went through a slavery. According to Stefan Burry in “Our Dark History,””Slavery lasted for over 400 years in the united states and over 2.5 million slaves were kidnapped from Africa.” assuming this quote is correct, over the course of 400 years, slaves were treated poorly and our ancestors fought for what we have today. African Americans were raped, beaten, forced to work long hours in the blazing Sun, and endured much hardship. Slaves were hosed down, slept in sheds and forced to do whatever their master of that time said. Not only was slavery horrendous, but it ended in much bloodshed. …show more content…

Taken as a percentage of today's population, the total would have risen as high as 6 million souls.”^ When slavery ended, there was a war between the North and South. Many men died in this battle that lasted from 1860 to 1864, and many homes were left broken: all for the freedom of African Americans and minorities.
