1. Write a 150-word paragraph in which you describe the dramatic context of this passage. Thomas resulted to declaring his speech in Act I when he was in an argument with Humphrey and Margaret concerning his status as the devil and his ability to predict when Judgment day is. During the speech Tyson, Thomas, Margaret, Humphrey, Nicholas, Alizon, Richard, the Chaplain, and Jennet were listening, however they still had their doubts towards Thomas’s confession as the devil. This large audience was beneficial for Thomas because his speech covers a critical thematic issue in the play – that is the role of the soul which appears several times in the play and this theme affects Thomas because it represents his life or his choice to leave the world or not.
The gift of “What if?” In the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream, had Titania given the Indian child to Oberon the first time he asked, the play would be different in many ways. It would be different because Bottom wouldn’t have been turned into an ass, nor the flower would’ve been put it Titania’s eyes. When Puck is in the forest and sneaks up on the people doing the play, he says,” What a play toward?
Firstly, Demetrius is characterized as a cold hearted, ghastly person. This is evident when Demetrius treats Helena in a very disrespectful, cruel manner. Demetrius: “Tempt not too much the hatred of my spirit. For I am sick when I do look on thee.’ In this quote, Demetrius tells Hermia
Shakespeare’s story demonstrates an example of how one’s jealousy is a negative part of love’s nature, as Helena’s jealousy towards of Hermia is undeniably shown. This starts the young lover’s internal conflict. Secondly, another issue about Helena is her desperateness for love. This is first shown when Helena follows Demetrius into a forest and says, “I am your spaniel, and Demitrius, / The more you beat me, I will fawn on you. / Use me but as your spaniel: spurn me, strike me, / Neglect me, lose me.
To gain her attention and stop the fight, Oberon used love juice to make Titania fall in love with a beast, so he could obtain the boy. Once Oberon was given the boy, he had Titania relieved of love juice, and they were a happy couple once more. This shows how couples can overcome obstacles that happen in relationships. The journey of true love is not easy to travel.
Theseus and Hippolyta wake up Lysander, Hermia, Helena, and Demetrius because Hermia has to make her final decision. With the love juice on his eyelids still, Demetrius confesses that he no longer loves Hermia and wants Helena to be the love of his life. Theseus overrides Egeus’s wishes, and he says the three couples will have a triple wedding. After Theseus, Hippolyta, and Egeus leave, all of them are unclear what exactly happened. Helena even says, “And I have found Demetrius like a jewel,/mine own, and not mine own” (4.1.176-177).
He wanted the boy for his travels and would not give up on having him. Since Titania would not give up the boy, Oberon made his own plan to get the boy, he said “ Having once this juice, I’ll watch Titania when she is asleep and drop the liquor of it in her eyes. The next thing then she waking looks upon, she shall pursue it with the soul of love. I’ll make her render up her page to me” (Shakespeare 2.1.177-185). Oberon put the love potion in her eyes so he could trick her into giving him the boy.
Bottom continues to adapt to the situation with Titania, not realizing that his head is a donkey, while Titania shows off her affection for him. Then, Oberon enters the scene and shows his sympathetic side by pinching a remedy on Titania’s eyes, which releases her from the spell. Puck then fixes Bottom’s head. Oberon tells Titania that he wants to forget their argument and enjoy Theseus and Hippolyta’s wedding. Theseus goes to the woods with Hippolyta and Egeus, and finds Hermia, Helena, Demetrius, and Lysander, trying to regroup their memories.
In William Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare critiques the idea of characters losing their power by falling in love because they allow their lover to have power over them and their actions. When characters lose their power as they fall in love, they are also allowing their mind to be corrupted by their lover. In the third act of the play, Lysander mistakenly takes the love potion meant for Demetrius and wakes up to see Helena. Hermia and Helena are confused as they find that Lysander is now pledging his love to Helena instead of Hermia, who he was formerly in love with. Hermia accuses Helena of stealing her lover and threatens her by saying, “how low am I?

“You are one of a kind and unique. Never forget that.” (Richard Simmons) The truth in this quote is real. If one were all the same, which we are not, we would be all but a robot which is organized in a way for all to be functioning in a specific standard.
Theseus and Hippolyta wake up Lysander, Hermia, Helena, and Demetrius because Hermia has to make her final decision. What Will Be Your Ending? Humans only get one life. The way you live it shows what you wanted out of life. Sometimes we are humiliated and let that take over our lives and sometimes we learn from our mistake, which causes us to be humble. Shakespeare shows us that we have the choice on how our life will turn out.
