Thomas starts the poem by saying do not give up to death, but to fight and to continue to rage against the dying of the light. Then he goes on writing about the wise, the good, the wild, and the grave men and how they all realize that they did nothing in their life. They all realize that they did not leave any mark on the world, and they didn’t get to enjoy the life they had. Although death is near to all of them, they all choose to fight and rage against death. In the end Thomas talks to his father and asks of him to wake up and not give up to death. He tells him that he should fight and get up.
Death is always viewed as the final rest, where it is a walk into the light and everything paused. Although with all of this, Thomas made sure to tell the reader to fight with every chance they got. That is one of my favorable part because instead of say rest and close you eyes he says “Rage, rage against the dying of the light” (Thomas, line 3). The author repeatedly made sure that the reader or in this case his father know not to give up. Also, Thomas chooses to right and to appeal to any man. I felt that the repetition of the sentence “Do not go gently into the good night” (Thomas, line 1), made a very big impact in the meaning of the poem. It was very violent. In a way it should the authors point of view of death and even some sort of trauma that could have affected him. The whole poem is a very unique point of view of death, not many people view it that way but something effect Thomas to view it that way.
