Saint John Paul II, in his encyclical Redemptoris Missio, states that we need to go to the cultural center of our modern world in order to spread the word of the Gospel, just as Saint Paul went to the Areopagus, the cultural center of Rome. The cultural center of today is not a tangible place; today’s cultural center revolves around the media, with a particular focus around social media. Almost everyone has at least some form of social media, whether it is Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, or LinkedIn. If you do not have any of these, everyone assumes you are living under a rock. For this paper in particular, I will focus on the app Snapchat. This app makes it possible to be witnesses to the Gospel through the culture of social media, and be able to integrate the Gospel in a culture that is permeated by secularism. First I will discuss the different features of Snapchat and how evangelization can be linked to this cultural trend. Secondly, I will show how the Church and other Catholics will be able to use the resources provided by this app to spread the Gospel. This is where businesses and organizations are able to post their own “stories” to advertise a product or event. They offer a wide range of content. Today, for example, there are ads that range from “Kim Kardashian breaks the Internet…AGAIN” to “This is what happens when you only eat bacon.” Many millennials, myself included, have been entranced by these stories, and more often than not I can catch myself reading them for long periods of time. Unfortunately, the ads on the Discover page do not come cheap. While this is not feasible for individual parishes, the Vatican itself may be able to run these discover ads whenever there is a special event going on. A Vatican story may not be as popular as the Buzzfeed quizzes that show up every day, but the fact that it is there will make people watch
