“Sermon on the Mount” The Sermon on the Mount given by Jesus found in Matthew chapters 5-7 embodies a variety of characteristics that point to healthy relationship with the Father in Heaven. These chapters can be separated into three general sections to be broken down further. They include: the Beatitudes, the Lord’s prayer, and instructions on how to treat others. The Beatitudes found in chapter 5 are a list of behavior characteristics that Jesus describes as “blessed.” Following the Beatitudes he teaches that as Christ-followers we are to allow others to see our light shine and point all glory back to the Father. He then goes onto to correct his audience’s thinking in that he came to fulfill the Law instead of abolishing it. …show more content…

This is called what most know as, “The Lord’s Prayer.” He taught that prayers should be intentional and communicated with the Father only; he spoke against doing anything for the sake of being seen by other men including fasting. Lastly, in chapter 7 he begins by discussing judging others and the golden rule. He taught that before someone can see clearly in someone else, they must first address the issues in their own heart. He goes onto to teach that we are to treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves. He also warned against false prophets who claim to be something they aren’t. For the second time he addresses the importance of doing everything as unto the Lord so that the heart of man can stay pure and enter into the Kingdom
