In my opinion, the love potion can be a representation of passionate love and as a way to explain the betrayal of Isolde and Tristan. For example, Isolde and Tristan would not have acted on their feelings without the help of the potion. Although, it is very obvious that they are hopelessly in love with one another. For example, when Brangane recognized that flask, she knew that it was hopeless. That Tristan and Isolde were meant to be together. However, the potion allowed them to "cheat" on Mark because they thought the potion was simply wine.
