After reading your essay “Song of the Summer of 1963” I noticed that you gave examples of good and sweet music from the 90’s and that is ok, because you are trying to convince us that old music was better than new songs. In your essay, you don’t fail to give detailed examples and even sometimes a few of the lyrics of the songs that you are talking about. Old music is great, but we can’t despise the music of the new generations. The tendency in music mostly depends on what is currently happening in general in a place or territory. Status in society change constantly, new historical events start happening and is most likely that new songs will refer to these events. For example, when Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, new songs came up, like for example, “Almost like praying” written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Despite all these songs that are emerging today, there are still classic songs very remembered and heard. Songs that impacted in some way a generation and that continue to impact the new generations.
