Amy Cuddy “Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are”
Paper Assignment In starting, I would say that the introduction of the speech was effective. It accomplished the goals of a speech introduction by making the audience “lean in” so to say, and though out the speech they were constantly shifting to the words they say. She established her ethos with the choice of bringing the idea of positions forward to the listener makes the message more intently listened to. As a pro-mentalist I think this was ethical.
Cuddy’s main points are: snap judgements of others, constant judgement of ourselves, faking it, and making it. (Lillie)

In my views as to whether she looked powerful: I think she did the “Y” position before so that she didn’t need to look powerful she felt it already. Cuddy used her voice to convey her message evenly in areas that are needed and seems insightful when she brings out stories or information. She moves around and stays still. When she’s moving, she is sharing information and when she is still; it’s personal. This makes her appear one with the audience, she pulls you in when she stays still. Also her movement keeps you going and listening.
The presentation aids Cuddy used were video, photo, and lab results (paraphrased). These seem to provide a way for the listener to see what she is talking about. The speech was intended for everyone, I belive, because everyone feels vulnerable at some point. Cuddy addresses the live audience and the mediated audience in her speech.
I think the speech had the desired impact. Out the gate we realize what our body is saying to others. I have learned that we don’t need to struggle with self-confidence issues, from her speech. Also, you can do power poses if you feel down or powerless. I feel that my body language affects my thoughts and I think they are insightful. I would most likely use these tips before my next job interview. Do a personal experiment. In following Cuddy’s advice the power pose worked to a degree, I really didn’t need to use them so guess it works when you’re under
