Crush to Closure: The Poems of a Relationship
This poetry collection includes many of the poems that I wrote before, during, and after a year and half long romantic relationship that I had. They follow my emotions from my initial attraction to the individual all the way up until the present day. These poems are arranged in chronological order and follow the course of the relationship and the process that I went through to understand it and move on. The themes that these poems cover include loss of innocence, abuse, romantic love, and self love. Thank you for considering my work. Hypothermia

I leave the windows
Open all night
Just in case
You want to come in
I’ll take my chances
With the cold
If there’s even a possibility
You will warm …show more content…

Eventually,
That window will close
And you will be the one
To shiver alone Secondhand Smoke
Sometimes,
I wish I smoked
Just so I could
Make you feel like I do
How my adrenaline spikes
When you pull out a lighter
And let fire
Hang on your lips
When you take a drag
And hold it in
Looking me over
Just before the release
It drips from you
The danger and anguish
And pools together
In a bundle of ash
You make disease
Look elegant
Let me take it in
Secondhand Locks
I do not know
How to make you happy
If there’s a key
I don’t have the spare
And if it’s a code
I’ve forgotten the sequence
But I am willing
To break your locks
With my hardened heart
And pull you close to me
So I can suck the sorrow
From your damp skin
But if none of that
Will do for you
Just remember
That someone out there
Wants to kiss the cheeks
That your tears fall on Baby
It’s nine in the morning
The last time I checked
It was only seven
And I am already
Beginning to miss you
As you sleep next to me
Your lips are parted and
You’re laying on your stomach
Like a small child would
And I want nothing more
Than to kiss your forehead
And run my fingers over you
But sleep is a precious thing
In this little world
So I keep still
Closing my eyes
And trying
To dream of …show more content…

Only softness
And truth
Tugging gently
At your vocal chords
Until it tumbles out
And falls into my lap
So I may cradle
Your love for me Bend/Paper Doll
Fold me up
Your origami girl
Take me with you
Let me nestle
In your pocket
Listening to your body’s rhythms
I can rest against you
Quiet and calm
Until the day is through
Unfold me in your bed
My paper heart
Will flutter at the sight of you
Fold me up
In your arms
I will bend for you Roots
Let's put down roots
Plant ourselves together
Right here in the dirt
It's only been a year
But our garden
Is blooming already
My wild little dreams
Dance like faeries
Hiding under leaves in my mind
Building images of us together
Out of dried petals
And broken twigs
I can't help but wonder
What it would be like
If you wrapped me in white
And spun us together
Into a web that hangs
On the hinges of the world
But I don't know
How to make you see
That I can bring the sun after the rain
And I know that we are young
But all of my grandparents
Built their own houses Reply to “Roots”

Once, I wanted to be buried beside you so badly
That I began to dig my own grave

I thought that I’d crawl into the Earth with you
And we would wrap our roots around each other

I didn’t realize then
That gardens don’t grow that
