SHORT RESPONSE 02 In this short response, I am going to talk about the poems called “Power” and “A woman speaks” by Audre Lorde. First, I am going to start with the poem “Power”. I have to say that this is a very interesting poem, and a good example to illustrate the problems that our society is going through. Since many years ago, injustice because of color, race, and religion have been common ground in our country. “Power” is a poem, which focuses on a trial, which is seen through the eyes of a poet, who is very critical with her ideas. Audre Lorde shows her feeling of fury as to the disadvantages accorded to those which are not part of the white dominant culture even through the eyes of law. She blames the racist system and those who run it as being the root of the problem; they have too much power. This is proof of the injustice that black folks suffer at the hands of whites. “Power” is all about the injustice that black people are suffering due to white supremacy. This young innocent child died only because of the hate that a white man with a gun had against a dark skinned human being. This is a good example of the injustice that exists into the court system. I can also make a connection with the essay of James Baldwin when he talks about the system under black and white artists perform. That systems also shows injustice against black people due to the fact that most of black people have to change some aspects of their physical or psychologic characteristics in order to be considered as part of the system. From here, we can conclude that white supremacy is present anywhere, even in the most important
