The First Years Last Forever is a short documentary that describes the importance of parenting during the first three years of a child’s life. The short documentary focuses in on parenting topics such as “spoiling” an infant, the social interaction between the parent and the child, and how the early years of a child’s life can greatly impact their future brain growth and development.

The professionals in The First Years Last Forever declares that it is not possible to spoil an infant (PublicReasorceOrg, 2011). They argued that when a parent responds quickly to their child’s cry it provides a solid framework for their child’s future brain development and it also informs them that they are in a safe and predictable environment (PublicReasorceOrg, 2011). According to The First Years Last Forever 90% of brain growth occurs in the first three years of life (PublicReasorceOrg, 2011). This statistic supports the theory that all experiences and outside stimuli an infant is exposed to greatly impacts the infant’s future brain growth and development. I believe that the infant’s experiences and outside stimuli must be appropriate and meaningful in order to insure that their future brain growth and development is typical and sufficient. An example that supports my belief is the acquirement of delayed speech in a child. According to the University of Michigan, delayed speech in a child can be caused by extreme environmental deprivation. Meaning that if a child is not spoken to or is surrounded by speech during their early years that child may not learn how to speak (Boyse,
