The Olympics began centuries upon centuries ago. Most people today recognize the Olympics as a game between countries where skilled athletes from many parts of the world come to compete. But, people may not know or understand how the Olympics came to be, and what contributing factors influenced ancient civilizations and society. In these next paragraphs, I will be explaining the benefits of the ancient Olympic games.

The Olympics first started out in Olympia, Greece thousands of years ago. Much like today, the games were very entertaining and competitive. Article three states that the calendar was based on a Lunar month, which is the 28 day cycle of the moon. It is said that the Olympic stadium was extremely hot because the games fell on the full moon that was closest to summer solstice. That time of year for ancient Greece was today's mid-July .This calendar was beneficial to the ancient Greeks because this way, the Olympics were held on time every four years. Without this calendar, it is possible that the modern day Olympics would be off or not on time. Thanks to the calendar, the games were and are still organized. Though today we don't use the Greek calendar for today's Olympics, we have Greece to thank for their method of keeping time.

To conclude, the Olympics haven't changed miraculously from thousands of years ago to now. Today, we still hold the games every four years and compete against other countries. The Olympics many years ago had many beneficial factors to it, making the games last for years longer.
