"And of Clay Are We Created" is a short story about a reporter 'Rolf' trying to save a helpless girl, when in reality he is trying to save himself from his childhood. "Singing My Sister Down" by Margo Lanagan and "And of Clay Are We Created" by Isabel Allende "Singing My Sister Down" develops characters more completely than "And of Clay Are We Created." In contrast to "And of Clay Are We Created" a more realistic setting created imagery in the readers mind unlike the unrealistic setting in "Singing my sister down". …show more content…
The author implies how the main characters try to save Ikky, when the end is inevitable. "Tristem gave me a gun... I can slip it in a tar wrinkle, get you in the head when your head is part sunk... Tell 'em your heart stopped..." (Lanagan 7). The mother of Ikky is trying to make sure she goes in the most comfortable way considering her situation. Even if it means breaking the law, her mother would do anything for Ikky. "And of Clay Are We Created" introduced the characters directly, not leaving much room to understand the characters' state of mind. Instead of allowing the reader to search for character traits, the author decided to directly tell how each character acted and felt. "Rolf Carlé, buoyed by a premature optimism, was convinced that everything would end just well" (Allende 43). Rolf was finally understanding why he acts the way he does. He wanted to try and save the helpless girl, giving her the childhood he never
