Jackson had a great vision of running the country from a common man’s perspective but failed to oversee beyond this perspective and see the bigger picture. At the start of the new nation, the government was bouncing back and forth wether power should stay with the states or within the central governmetn intself. Jackson followed many of the Jefferson’s idea for government and also belived on states rights. This idea slowly began to change when one of the states, south carolina, began to threat the government of seceden from the union.
Jackson did so many bad things that made people hate him, one example would be corrupting the government. Corrupting the government was not a good thing to do as a president, this problem made it so the government and him were no longer trustworthy or fair. This was only one bad thing Andrew Jackson did. Andrew Jackson during his time was considered a very patriotic politician he hated the rich, he hated the Indian, and loved the idea of slavery. It has been said that he grew up not educated and had a bad up bring but still managed to get to a high political suture. Jackson at one point was general and had a very decorated portfolio, which made sense he would become president, Andrew was most well know for “The Battle of New Orleans” where Andrew Jackson, prevented the British Army and General Edward Pakenham, from seizing New Orleans nearing the end of that war.
Andrew Jackson was a military leader, a general and someone who people looked as “The man of the people. ”How Jackson acted with people was mixed emotions. People liked him and others not so much. He liked to gamble and bet on horse races when he was young. He was also an orphan since his father died before he was born and his mother died.
He had a harsh temper and his personality was just not fit to be in the position of president. Jackson was said to be better for the Army and military and that he just wasn’t really capable of the duties of being president. He even said himself that he was not quite made for president. “I know what I am fit for. I can command a body of men in a rough way, but I am not fit to be president.”
Andrew Jackson didn’t necessarily have a good upbringing. He was an orphan by the age of fourteen. At the age of thirteen, he fought in the revolutionary war. After the war ended, he pursued the art of law. He moved to Tennessee, married, and got involved with land speculation, farming, and the enslavement of African Americans.
He had also won the rank of Major General in the U.S. Army. Although he had grown up an orphan and poor, in the end he became a strong and wealthy president. Also he was one of the first person to start the democrat party, he was liked by the people because he was "the peoples' President". During his presidency the Trail of Tears happened in where almost four thousand to sixteen thousand Indians died in the way to Oklahoma. Andrew Jackson impacted the era by creating a new political party and he also gave America a break from the past by being the first president that was not a popular hero in the revolutionary war.
Jackson did do some things that some people didn’t agree with, but it was always to improve the lives of the citizens. One of the controversial things Jackson did was invade Florida and destroy villages against orders. He had been sent to Florida to round up captured slaves, but he instead he conquered much territory and remove Indians from the area. People believed that Jackson did this just so he could acquire more territory for the United States. However, Jackson himself said that his only motivation behind it was to prevent Native American violence against the white settlers.
Andrew Jackson was said to be one of the worst presidents in the United States. He made some bad choices during his presidential years, which lead to him being capitalized as a monarch or a king. With the United States’ history with kings that was not a good thing. Jackson was very stubborn and strong willed, he didn’t take no for an answer. Being strong willed is normally a good thing in certain situations, but in Jacksons situation it was not.
After the war was over, he became a lawyer in North Carolina. He moved to Nashville in 1788 to practice law. As the town grew, Jackson’s practice grew as well. He made enough money to buy land and slaves to set himself as a gentleman planter. When Jackson ran for the election of 1828, he was thought to be a noble hero; he promised equal protection and equal benefits for “all Americans.”
Jackson was a determined person. When he believed in something he would never give up until he got it. At times where Jackson could have cost his presidency but he stood next to what he believed in. He stood up what was right and went against everyone at times for his morals. Even at times he failed but he would just right back on it and tried again.
Jackson’s goal in his eight years was to reinvent the presidency. Jackson first act was to fire government officials who were seen as corrupt and replaced them with others who would amend his every decision. He also protected the union by declining nullification that would cause a civil war. His counteract was to issue a presidential proclamation which he appealed to the people of South Carolina. Henry Clay than succeeded in winning passage compromise bill that Jackson signed and South Carolina agreed to obey it.
Andrew Jackson was one of America 's “great” presidents. At Least that 's what the 20$ bill in my pocket tells me. I don 't deny the awe that his life story inspires. An orphan who turns into a self made man is very inspiring. Also his distinguished military career that helped him win The Battle of New Orleans is one of his few accomplishments.
