Who was the most influential man of modern art in the 21st century? Well that man is Andy Warhol, the remarkable man who showed the world his pop art such as: Campbell’s Soup cans, Marilyn Monroe, Coca Cola bottles, and many more. In case you did not know, the pop art movement started in the late 1950’s in the United states. Pop art employs aspects of mass culture such as advertisements or comic books. Pop art may also be an ironic comment on traditional fine art values. Andy Warhola’s life begins on August 6, 1928, Pittsburgh PA. He was born into a family who immigrated from Eastern Slovakia. His mother’s name is Julia and he has two brothers named Paul and John Warhola. As a child, Andy was different from most kids his age, he was shy, prone to illness, and he had difficulties in school. Warhol got a career as a commercial artist and was hired by the famous Glamour Magazine in September, 1945. Andy’s “whimsical style” made him a well sought after illustrator. Warhol focused his talents onto pop art paintings in the late 1950’s, his first was the most famous Campbell’s soup cans. Warhol becomes a celebrity at this point and he also painted celebrities in pop art such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and Elizabeth Taylor. In the years 1963-1968, Andy Warhol began working with famous people to create many interesting films. Some of his films include: Chelsea girls,L’amour, Trash, Flesh, Heat, Lonesome Cowboys, and Tarzan and Jane regained… Sort of. In the 1970’s and 1980’s Andy Warhol was a complete celebrity who was an idol to younger artists, he was internationally famous.
