Andy Warhol was, and still is one of the most influential pop artist in the world of art. He is known for his uses of colors and repeating the same picture over and sometimes bolder. Andy Warhol was a big part of the "Pop Movement" during the 20's and I appreciate his work today as an art student.
Andrew Warhola was born on August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Andy's father, Ondrej Warhola, and his mother, Julia Warhola were Slovakian immigrants to the United states. Andy's mother loved to draw and sketch during her free time, and it eventually became something that she and her son shared. Andy Warhol was known to suffer from a nervous disease called Chorea. Andy Warhol attended Holmes Elementary School in Pittsburg and enjoyed school. At the age of 14, the teenager boy lost his father. In his father's will, he left all his money towards Andy's education. It was said that Andy's father believed in his son's art talents and believed that he would have real success in life. This was just the start of Andy's career in art and filmmaking. After Andy graduated from high school at only age 16, he attended Carnegie Institute of Technology. He received training in filmmaking and pictorial design In 1949, Andy graduated and moved to New York City. There, he became a commercial illustrator. After doing several commercials, he started doing advertisements for businesses around New York and was very successful in that area. Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper John became a big influence on Warhol's art and creations. Their works also urged him to expand his "palate" of art. This eventually led to his involvement in the pop art movement. In the earl 60's, Andy began creating artwork using advertisement pictures and super hero comic strips.
