Pop Art is a form of art that is based on modern popular culture. This form of art is usually created in mass media. The Pop Art movement began in the 1950s; however it wasn’t until the 1960s where it became popular. Andy Warhol was one of the famous Pop art creators, his works focused on artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisements in the 1960s. A few of his famous works consist of “Campbell’s Soup Cans” (1962), “Marilyn diptych” (1963), “Eight Elvises” (1963), “Green Coca-Cola Bottles” (1962) and “Ethel Scull 36 times” (1963). Andy Warhol’s works usually consisted of one picture that was repeated various times, some of them contained repeated images in altered colors. Another famous Pop Art creator was Roy Lichtenstein. My Pop Art design is called “Break”. “Break” consists of an image of a palm tree on a beach that is repeated on four different canvas’s in various colors. I chose to paint a picture of a palm tree because it represents the ideal vacation in our modern culture. People usually dream of vacationing to a warm environment that enables them to relax on the beach, especially those whom live in nations that reach cold temperatures. During our winters and springs people love escaping our weather and indulging somewhere on a beach. I chose to focus “Break” on Andy Warhol’s works, and incorporated his painting characteristics into my paintings. The repetition of my palm trees four times resembles Andy Warhol’s works such as “Campbell’s Soup Cans”, “Marilyn diptych”, “Eight Elvises” and “Green Coca-Cola Bottles”. In addition, I decided to alter the color of each painting in order to resemble Andy Warhol’s famous “Ethel Scull 36 Times”.
