Anger manifests differently between boys and girls, boys’ anger is shown when they get insulted, and girls' anger is shown when their secrets get revealed; when boys get insulted they tend to act on impulse while girls act differently to people they want to impress in order to hide their secrets, and boys fight for their pride, girls fight for their image, both to look different in the eyes of others.

Anger embodies boys and girls differently either physically or emotionally. The boys from Lord of the Flies and the girls from Mean Girls express their anger differently. For instance in Lord of the Flies Ralph and Jack start attacking each other when Ralph says “Thief! Thief” … “ Jack made a rush and stabbed at Ralph's chest with his spear” (Golding, page 219). These quotes show as soon as Jack was insulted he immediately struck his spear at Ralph’s chest not taking a second to see if that action could have killed him. Also in Lord of the Flies Jack gets embarrassed when Ralph calls his hunters "Boys armed with sticks." (Golding, page 153) immediately after Jack called a meeting, where he tries to get the boys to turn on Ralph because of this quote where Ralph insults Jack's hunters but the boys didn't want to leave Ralph and Jack feeling embarrassed decided to leave. Lastly in Lord of the Flies Ralph felt disrespected when he struck the pig and tried to get everyone's approval but was ignored so he joined their chant of "Kill the pig! Cut his throat! Kill the pig! Bash him in!" (Golding, page 139) This quote shows the boys want people to think differently of them so they just go along with what the others are doing not thinking about the consequences. As we can see In Lord of the Flies Jack always thought he should be in charge of the boys on the island because he believed he was much more fit to rule the boys than Ralph. In the article “Difference Between Pride and Self-Esteem,” it states that “pride is simply defined as one’s feelings of excessive self worth.” Meaning that people who fight for their pride are fighting to give themselves the idea that they are worth more than other people. The article also states “pride is more of an attitude and because it is in excess, it is also accepted as a vice.” This refers to the fact that although it is great to be prideful, there is a thin line before pride becomes arrogance. This article can relate to Jack because in Lord of the Flies Jack had too much pride which made him arrogant and violent.
