The book “The Lord Of The Flies” showcases characters that are only male. The boys were unable to maintain a civilized environment, and neglected to provide a safe place for them to grow up mentally and physically. At the young age these boys are said to be boys and girls are very different. Most girls mature faster then boys, being able to exhibit better reasoning and problem solving skills. While boys usually tend to be more violent and solve their problems by simply fighting the other person. If girls were in The Lord Of The Flies they groups would be more organized, they would have been less savage, and they would have been able to maintain life on the island. Throughout the entire book the boys on the island had a huge problem with organization. The were unable to have a leader that they could constantly keep and follow, and on top of that the boys were put in social classes based on age not ability . They would be able to make a home on the island for generations to come. If they succeeded in doing this successfully they wouldn’t have to be as persistent as they are about being rescued, as shown on page 37, “We want to be rescued; and of course we shall be rescued.” Most of the fighting and killing on the island was over fear of not being rescued, making the boys have to confront their inner demons. Maintaining a life on the island successfully would wipe away that fear, and the only way to maintain life would be to have both genders on the island. Not only for reproducing but for even distribution of jobs, and responsibilities.
