I once read a quote pertaining to art. The quote reads “the object of art is to give life shape” by the famous philosopher, William Shakespeare. Not only is his claim accurate, but completely relatable. From experience, I know that a young artist does not need knowledge nor empathy to create a piece. According to Anna Deavere Smith, actor and a helping hand, “art should take what is complex and render it simply.” She also explains that art takes skill. In ‘Letters To A Young Artist,’ Smith explains that as a painter, you will need a hand, and as an actor she will need a body. The author means that you need you and yourself in order to succeed. I feel that you should choose your mentor, the person,in my opinion,should meet your standards. A reference from ‘Letters To A Young Artist’ that I found is “I sought them out on my own,and they come from all sorts of backgrounds,” in reply to a fan asking “how did you find your mentors?” Another is “mentors are different from teachers in general because you pick them.” Her and I have very similar opinions, however, some people disagree. Some people may say that mentors are chosen for you, not vice versa. Same thing can be argued about my opinion on this essay. It can be said that more than half of my classmates feel that a person NEEDS knowledge and empathy to create art, I can see why people debate this, I don 't disagree completely, because I too thing you need those things to an extent. For instance; A friend told me earlier today that, in her opinion,you need to relate to people, that see your work that is. At this point I was confused at what she meant, and then she gave me an example; “it 's like writing a book. You would want your work to be what your readers like, something that they can relate to.” As said before, I agree with some things to an
