2. Background of the study
Since the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing 1995), where women rights and gender equality were put at the center stage, countless initiatives have taken place all around the world to allow girls and women to have access to the same opportunities as men do. However, literature on the efforts of some countries in the developing world is not explicitly clear on the motivators to propel such initiatives.
Burundi is one of the country in the Great Lakes Region of Africa bordering Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Fetter, B. 1990). Its total area …show more content…

Descriptive refers to the study of personal experience (Yüksel & Yıldırım, 2015) and requires a description or interpretation of the meanings of phenomena experienced by target population (Oizumi, Albantakis & Tononi, 2014). Whereas transcendental phenomenology “analyzes the essences perceived by consciousness with regard to individual experiences” (Anfara Jr & Mertz, 2014).

10. Methodology
Since the research is to explore the influence of elementary education and culture on Burundian women ascension to leadership position, qualitative methods within a phenomenological theoretical framework is proposed to be used. The research will employ semi-structured and structured interviews are envisaged to be used in the effort to unearth the motivating factors for the target population.

As per the definition, purposive sampling in this research will follow a specific criteria to be met by the target group before being considered. The following criteria: High self-esteem as woman in leadership, five of more years of being in leadership position, and solid belief in gender equality. In will also include: having taken elementary schooling in Burundi and a Burundian woman by birth. The criteria is ensure that the selected sample have similar experiences regarding the ascension to leadership
