Barahona, Igor. “Poverty in Mexico: Its Relationship to Social and Cultural Indicators.” Social Indicators Research, 2016, pp. 1–29.
The author uses a series of data to show the level of poverty affected Mexico and the consequences of the program called Oportunidades. As shown a study from Santiago Levy as he describes the program and its ambitions to improve society but fails to prove strong data of its outcome. Barahona’s data proves if it is Mexico social problem is not really solved and the step for the Mexico’s development into first world is still a long way as Chiapas and Oaxaca are still the poorest states. Besides they are the most benefited provinces from the program, their development is still low due that people are not making progress of the opportunities provided to them.

This is a historical step in the nation as Mexico was providing a help for the poor. This program is a demonstration of Mexico’s improvement to solve the social issues in Mexico such as poverty. With this program Mexico would be able to find economic progress as people will have their benefits as long this program is continued in the long terms even in difficult times. Finally, this is an achievement for a developmental country to learn the mistakes from the past if Mexico’s ambition to jump into the ladder of first world nation.
