Many of the plays, including Antigone, often have burials represented as high honoring events in their era. “The procedure recalls for the burial of a Homeric hero...where Patroclus receives burial with full honors” (Shapiro 119). The author uses an example from another play to show the importance of the burial and the effect it had on the people. Antigone fought for what she believed in and tried to persuade the people around her to do what was right. One big lesson that was taught through the play was the fall of pride.
