Introduction
A carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of the activities of a particular individual, organization, or community. Carbon emissions negatively impact the earth’s environment and are a major cause of global warming.

This is roughly four times the distance. As shown in image 2 below. That will mean that in order for the carbon footprints to be reasonable similar, the Durban parents must make 4 trips to Michaelhouse for every 1 trip that the Johannesburg parents make. Although this will rely on the information the researcher will receive from the survey, for example the different cars carbon emission, he does not think that it will be able to differ the hypothesis by such an extent. However, some Johannesburg boys do travel by aeroplane to and from Michaelhouse, and the researcher will be taking this into account in the survey and adding up the carbon footprint.
A secondary hypothesis is that the researcher believe that Michaelhouse Parents will have a much larger carbon footprint than the average South African citizen (nearly double), and one of the main reasons being due to the travelling to and from
