The book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes was written by Chris Crutcher, this book is filled with courageousness, mystery and spine chilling events.

In the book, Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes,Throughout the book Eric had shown tremendous amounts of moments where he shows that he was devoted to Sarah. He is devoted to Sarah Byrnes in many ways. One of the ways would be when Eric started swimming and started to lose weight, but he didn't want to lose weight because he thought Sarah was going to think that he was going to leave her. Since Sarah was ugly and got made fun of a lot he wanted people to have something to make fun of him for so Sarah wasn’t alone. When Eric did start to lose a little weight he notice right away and wanted to change just for Sarah.

Pg. 173-174 To me this quote is very important because he is deathly afraid of Mautz and Virgil but he stands up to them because he doesn't want to expose Sarah. Of the many quotes I found, the first one, was on the very first page, “The bees came in the summer of 1964, the summer I turned fourteen and my life went spinning off into a whole new orbit, and I mean whole new orbit. Looking back on it now, I want to say the bees were sent to me.” From my point of view, this quote fits the novel well because of its contribution to the developing plot line. As the book opened, the author already added suspense. The quote is important to not only the plot line, but the overall novel.

Washington Post’s bi-weekly columnist, Kathleen Parker, writes primarily about recent events involving the subjects politics and culture. Over the course of this past summer, Kathleen Parker has written about a handful of controversial topics, including Bruce, now Caitlyn, Jenner’s sex change, the issues with the Confederate flag being flown on statehouse grounds in South Carolina, the Josh Duggar molestation scandal, and police brutality. However, as fascinating and well-written as these topics are, I found some aspects of these articles bothersome and superfluous, including her unnecessary allusion to Moby Dick in the opening line of the article Caitlyn Jenner’s Coming Out.
One quote from the book that exemplifies this aspect of the book is
Anorexia applied to every little aspect in her life, which is where it differs from anorexics who are only worried about food. She found herself counting every calorie that came near her body and digging through encyclopedias for every element in her food. Her new coming skinniness didn’t come from her sister’s nickname of “Sister Infinity Fats” that even her parents joined in on, it merely formed on something Jenny considered a hobby. But her “hobby” became more than that after a while, thinking she would be “condemned to hell” for taking up so much room and felt guilty for eating. As Jenny neared college she desperately filled her schedule with every activity she could fit into her schedule from French club to drama club.
This quote is a good example because characters in the book do everything they can to help stop racism because they feel the need to help; however, other people do not feel like it, so they are aggressive towards blacks. Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, published in 1960, takes place during the 1930’s. She uses many themes throughout the book; Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird portrays many life lessons, but the most important are discrimination, courage, and racism.
A question my coaches often ask me is “What is my why?” Why do I play the game? Why do I dedicate so much of my time and energy to the team?
