Discrimination; treating a person or particular group of people differently, especially in a worse way from the way in which you treat other people, because of their skin colour, sex, sexuality, etc.
National initiatives promote anti discriminatory practice through ensuring that key pieces of information is widely accessible for everyone to see. It is extremely important for health and social care organisations to promote anti discriminatory practice. Anti discriminatory practice is any practice meant to counter discrimination based on race, class, gender,disability, etc and promote equality by introducing anti discrimination policies in care settings. As much as we’d like to think that discrimination within care settings did not exist, sadly it does and it’s an issue that affects many individuals each day. The government recognise that it is important to ensure that there are laws in place in order to ensure that people get the right treatment. The Equality Act 2010’ states that all individuals must be treated fairly and equally.This law is there to ensure that people are given care which meets their needs and is in their best interests. The Act was written in was passed in 2010 and it aimed to prevent discrimination within society. The Act is successful in the way that it has approached the growing issue of discrimination within the care sector. The Equality Act has helped identify areas in social care where there are issues of inequality. The Act is particularly successful as it is written in a way which is clear for everyone to read and understand. This is beneficial as it means that more and more people will be able to learn from the act and implement this knowledge into their everyday
