Throughout the history of mankind, many amazing pieces of literature have been published and told. Every literary piece is made up of several things--characters, themes, etc.--and without them there would be no story to tell. Every author is unique in their own way and writes unique pieces. Many early Greek epics are tragedies, but there are some comedies. The tragedies hold so many meanings and usually are telling the reader an important life lesson.
Part I--The epics Antigone, Oedipus the King, and Oedipus at Colonus have many similarities. They share similar themes even though they are three different stories. The central theme in Antigone is the tension between individual action and fate. Free choices are significant as well but fate is responsible for most of the critical and tragic events. Sophocles suggests that characters are not fully responsible for their actions by elevating the importance of fate. The themes in Oedipus the King and Oedipus at Colonus are also free will

Throughout this major Greek epic, Ulysses shows his is most powerful with his mental strength. Ulysses is most known for his intellect. His ability to be able to think quickly on the spot in response to problems helps him out of very tough situations that occur. For example, he is able to come up with a plan to escape from the cave where Polyphemus was keeping his men and him, and his plan helps free them. During his time that he is away from home, he thinks of his wife and son to overcome any and all temptations so that he can return home to them. This shows he is a loving, loyal, trusting, and respectful guy that will go through anything to get back to the people he loves most. Ulysses is in a Greek tragedy where a tragedy always happens, and the tragedy is him being thrown off course from home for so long, but he manages to overcome and succeed in returning
